MELU Herbarium DatabaseThe University of Melbourne (MELU) Herbarium Database aims to provide a simple and accurate storage system for specimen information. The database uses File Maker Pro and was initially designed by final year Information Students as part of their Industry Project. The system follows protocol set out by HISPID while aiming to allow quick and userfriendly data entry, multiple search functions, printable reports and labels, and data exchange via MS Excel. The database also has a web page that allows searching by internet users. At present only approximately 4% of the MELU collection is databased. Once substantially complete the MELU Database will be linked to the Australian Virtual Herbarium. This will provide additional access for use by historians, environmentalists, botanical enthusiasts, etc. Due to financial limitations, most data entry is currently performed by student volunteers. If you think you could help us with databasing the MELU specimen information, through financial or other contributions we would like to hear from you.
