The PhD degree is a substantial piece of original research conducted under academic supervision that makes a significant contribution to the discipline.  Students produce a thesis which is examined externally.

Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Research 2 years

The MPhil is designed for students who want to develop advanced skills and learn how to carry out independent and sustained research. An MPhil thesis should demonstrate a critical application of specialist knowledge and make an independent contribution to existing scholarship.

Master of Science (MSc) Research and coursework 2 years

The MSc program is new in 2009.  The MSc offers graduates a new pathway into a career - either employment or into further research in the PhD. Botany Masters students engage in a significant research project and discipline-specific and workplace-focused coursework. The MSc in the School of Botany offers students a highly flexible course that can be planned around your interests, background and goals as well as the research areas within the School.
