Welcome from Ian Woodrow, Head of the School of Botany
The Botany Foundation was formed in 1995 to raise funds for training our future plant scientists and to guide the allocation of funds.
We all depend on plants for our food, and for maintaining our environment, with which many Australians have an almost spiritual relationship. The School of Botany at The University of Melbourne has a long history of training outstanding plant scientists, who consistently contribute to Australia's development through the application of their knowledge to such fields as conservation, environment, agriculture, mining, teaching and many different industries.
We believe it is essential that we maintain our traditions of excellence and of offering training to all students regardless of their economic background.
The School of Botany Foundation is an important part of securing this future.
We have established a direct program and a bequest program to raise funds to:
- assist our postgraduate students to fulfill their potential and develop leadership qualities through scholarships and travel awards
- maintain excellence in our teaching and research
- facilitate new research programs, providing state-of-the-art equipment and a seminar program
- to make our fellow Australians aware of the richness of our native plants and issues relating to preserving our environment.
