Welcome to the School of Botany Protistan Cell Surface Group, where all aspects of algal cell walls and surface scums are analysed and studied, including mechanisms of biomineralization and bioadhesion. There are three major directions  within the Algal ScUM group.

  • Biofouling: Characterization of bioadhesives from marine diatom slimes and their interactions with different substrata; developing environmentally friendly, foul-release coatings.

  • Nanofabrication and Biomineralization of Diatom Biosilica
